Love, love, love. My feet sweat for some unknown reason which was distracting. This mat eliminates my distraction. Highly recommend.

UPDATE
I have had this mat 2 weeks. I use it for more haha flow style yoga 20 to 40 minutes a day and sometimes an hour. The cork layer already started to disappear almost 2 weeks in on the high traffic areas, where my knees and hands frequently art. This really makes the mat look gross. Then a few days later I noticed those same high traffic areas are already thinning and it feels like I am doing my poses right on the hard wood floor on those areas.
I contacted the company through their website and I can tell you they do stand by their products. They are pleasant to deal with and I still like them as a company. I do think I got a defective mat. As they also say this is unusual and these mats last for years. I am more than happy with my experience. My 5 stars is staying the se despite these issues. Very rare a company today stands by their products. No run around no repetitive questions, no printing shipping labels and arranging a pick up time. Stress free. They are truly an awesome company.
This mat is so wonderful. I was ready to get a new mat after wearing out a cheap mat I had. I was nervous about buying one online that I couldn't feel in person. I am so happy. It is so comfy. The top is still curled a little but it is so close to being flat. I've had this mat only about 5 days. I do a 45 minute yoga flow in the morning and a shorter flow at night. It feels so nice. First 2 uses I sprayed with some water and no slips at all. I also do not leave imprints in this mat from down dog like I have previously had happen with other mats. I see this mat lasting a long time and treating me well. Thanks so much.

the mat is a little curled up still going into week 2 of purchase but never had a weird smell. The mat is pretty heavy but it’s definitely not going anywhere. I researched for awhile debating and it’s definitely worth the purchase price. We shall see how it lasts a year or two down the road.

This is seriously the best yoga mat I’ve ever owned. True to its description, the wetter the mat gets, the gripper it gets. The natural cork top of the mat provides superior grip as compared to other mats I’ve used. The rubber bottom provides excellent comfort and grip the floor; it’d recommend it to anyone, but particularly those who have joint pain, it “lightens the load” so to speak on your wrists and knees. Incomparable durability, and very easy to keep clean. 5 star yoga mat!

I bought the Gurus Sprout a little over a year ago. When it started to lose some of its non-slip quality, I started looking for a new mat. I wanted something that offered more cushioning and the same non-slip quality of the Sprout. After trying a few different mats that didn’t work for me, I decided I was being stupid. I knew my Sprout worked well and lasted a good while, despite an average 4-5 days a week of ashtanga yoga. Why was I searching everywhere besides where I’d already had success? I ordered the Gurus cork mat with rubber bottom. It’s a lot heavier than the Sprout. On my scale, the Sprout weighs in at 2.4 lbs. This mat weighs 6.2 lbs. It offers a lot more cushionIng than the Sprout. As a matter of fact, even though it doesn’t look much thicker than the Sprout, it offers way more cushioning. It lays flatter than the Sprout. It’s definitely non-slip.
The mat comes with a note that says either side can be used. They recommend using the rubber side until you’re warmed up (and sweaty), then switching to the cork side. Well, I like the ability to slide into a fuller up dog, which I can’t do with a really sticky mat. So, on my first use of this mat, I tried the cork side. I had no slippage in my down dogs or any other pose. My standing poses were nice and solid. Yesterday, I decided to try the rubber side for my upward bow (wheel or urdhvadhanurasana, for those of you who can remember the proper names better than this old lady). This is the pose I tend to slip the most in. It worked well. I’m not sure it worked better than the cork side, though. I didn’t really notice any slippage on the cork side.
This mat will not travel as well as my Sprout. However, it offers more cushioning. It’s definitely non-slip. I’ve noticed minimal sliding, even on my carpeted floor where I do my practice at home. If it moves an inch or two during my home practice, I’d be surprised. I can’t say that with any other mat I’ve tried, and I’ve tried several. And, unlike my Sprout, if I decide to do some Yin yoga, I’m not going to have to switch to my Manduka mat. This one will work fine. Two thumbs up!

I have been doing yoga for about 15 years and in that time I've used many different types of mats. Most recently I was using a used LuLu Lemon mat and a Manduka (I'm not sure the exact models of either). The LuLu was just plain worn out and the Manduka was just too thin and uncomfortable, and I was almost always losing grip with my hands. So the search began for a new mat...and lasted for about 1 year! If you're reading this, you know what I mean: everything is either seemingly cheap (and how good/long lasting can it be?) or ridiculously expensive (in my humble opinion). Where was the middle ground? I just began Yoga Teacher Training (upping my yoga practice personally AND professionally) so I wanted to INVEST, not just purchase. I also wanted it to be environmentally friendly because that sort of things is important to me. I came across a top ten list of the most eco-friendly yoga mats (and manufacturers) and used that to narrow things down. The problem with those types of lists is that they tend to focus on larger corporations/etc. I also love to support small(er) business, even though many companies (like Manduka and many other established names in the yoga industry) are reputable and I believe have respectable processes and practices. Somewhere in my search with all of this criteria I came across cork yoga mats. I was very intrigued...but it opened up yet another can of worms and spirals of more and more searching!
Then I found Gurus. Their item description spoke to me and so I decided to turn away from a fabulous deal on a Manduka EKO mat and give this one a try instead. So far I am VERY satisfied with this purchase. Here are the highlights in my book:
No plastic or off-putting smell. While there was a bit of an odor, it wasn't unnatural or invasive and after a handful of uses, is totally gone.
Most reviews I read said cork is fantastic for hot yoga as the non-stick aspect is even BETTER with sweat/moisture. Reviewers said if you do NOT sweat you may need to mist the mat with water before using to help "activate" the tackiness. This almost turned me away from cork, as I don't practice hot yoga or sweat (too much anyway). However, my hands almost always warm up and I find myself slipping within minutes of practice. I have NOT misted this mat before use and I also have NOT slipped! My feet feel grounded, my hands feel grounded...but I can also flow from one asana to another without a squeaking, sticking problem like other super-tacky mats. I'm stoked about this!
One cork mat reviewer said he feels more connected to the Earth when practicing on his mat. I have to say that I agree! I love having the steadiness underneath me while I practice WITHOUT the plastic-like feeling. When my face is on or near the mat, it is pleasant and almost comforting. Perhaps that sounds a bit odd, but some of you readers will understand.
The thickness is perfect! I don't have to double the mat up when I'm on my knees or other asanas. It's also not so thick that it interferes with balance.
It rolls out nearly flat every single time. There is often a little bump at the edges, which concerned me at first, but it has not once moved or shifted during practice. It sticks to the ground wonderfully.
The reasonable price of this mat was a huge selling point. If I didn't like it or it wasn't up to my expectations, at least it wasn't $100+ down the drain. I figured that for less than $60, it was totally worth a shot. And I'm so glad that I went for it! I LOVE this new mat and having been telling everyone about it!

I purchased the Roots cork yoga mat and a “I am with the Earth” strap. Love them! I’ve recently begun doing yoga and my foam “gym mat” was SUPER slippery when covered in sweat. This cork mat is incredible. I don’t slide at all. My only wish is that there were a longer size so my 6’3” self had a little more mat to lay on.

Purchased the cork travel mat which is absolutely amazing!!

I absolutely love this product! I ordered both mats and a pair of sandals. The sandals are comfortable and easy to clean and maintain. As for the mats, I keep the original at home. I have hardwood floors so this may really gives me a lot of cushion. I take the travel mat with me when I travel for work. It’s light weight and fits in my suitcase. I also love the sustainability of the cork and the story behind the brand.

I picked up a tee & pair of yoga sandals recently @ a yoga festival. Tee is comfy but the sandals are a revelation! So comfortable, no resulting blisters & well worth the price!

I teach nearly 20 classes a week in London and having tried various yoga mats at different studios, I have to say that the Guru mat is my favourite and what I use every morning for my own practice. It is much longer and wider than standard mats which gives my asanas ample space to come to life and the material, which is completely natural rubber and cork is so pleasant to work with. No toxic scent when the sun hits it or harsh chemicals on my skin. It is the closest I get to nature inside my small city flat! I also love the way it looks and blends in with all my furniture so I very often leave it rolled out to ad to my deco and give my place a nice yogi feel :)Thank you gurus for creating such a fab product !!!

I have been impressed by the amazing customer service here! I purchased a cork yoga mat that unfortunately started to flake after a month of use. I purchased it via Amazon one the return date had passed by one week. I contacted them, they agreed immediately that the mat had a defect and offered to replace it, and helped me navigate this directly through the company since Amazon closed our window for working together. They’re replacing my mat and have been supportive and kind.
Also, the cork mat is the best yoga mat I have ever used. Highly recommend it!

My @ilovegurus sandals and mat go everywhere with me. I can’t tell you how many times I have been stopped in the street and asked where I got my sandals and every time I lay out my Gurus yoga mat people comment. The truth of the matter is that the sandals are super comfy and don’t feel like I am wearing shoes! The mat cleans itself with the antibacterial, anti-microbial and anti-fungal properties of cork. It’s super thin but really comfortable to practice on.

I absolutely love my Guru mat! I’ve had it for going on a year now and I’m just as happy with it every time I roll out my mat as the first time! And I’ve never gotten more comments on a mat than this one. Thanks so much for providing such a delightful product!

Thick and firm so my knees love it even in contorted poses or sitting in full-lotus while boosted up, but also solid enough that your foot doesn't wobble on one-footed balance poses.
The cork is fairly smooth but gets grippier as your pores open up in a warm class.
In shavasana, it's nice to be laying on something that's all natural and yet comfortable.
Pros:
- Comfort: firm yet forgiving on joins
- Balance: absorbs sweat and isn't squishy do dancing-shiva feels good
- Look: It just looks cooler to have cork mat than some rubbery-behemoth
Cons:
- Weight/Size: Great for everyday yoga, not air-travel.

Great customer service and shipped quickly too! I even emailed them with a few questions before purchasing which they answered back promptly. (Roots cork yoga mat) thanks again!

I love sustainable yoga mats, but the and I've mostly bought rubber ones, but most of them are heavy to carry around, and if it's a sweaty session, they get very slippery, especially the closed cell rubber ones. I never thought to search for a cork based mat, and I'm glad i did. This mat is light, slip resistant with no towel needed to be placed on top, and allows my feet to dig in deeper to help with stability.

AMAZING !!!! I've been doing yoga for almost 20 years and have tried many different mats. The roots mat is amazing! I don't understand how cork can be so soft & flexible but this material is and it doesn't smell at all. It rolls up easily without cracking or changing shape. It always rolls out completely flat & smooth. The texture is soft and similar to rubber, not dry and crumbly like you would imagine cork. This texture allows your feet and hands to grip perfectly. The website states that it will grip more as it gets wet (with sweat) but I am super flexible and push the limits so I just give the top and bottom a few spritz of water then rub/wipe in before I start. I can't explain how wonderful it is to have a perfect functional mat instead of just something that is okay. The root mat is heavy duty (about 6.2 lbs) so I would recommend the sprouts version for on-the-go yogis. So glad my online yoga newsletter featured it.
I don't have FB - this is my mom's so to clarify I'm 50 and very active, Michele

Gurus is the best! I've been using my cork mat daily for over a year and it's my favorite. I love that my hands and feet don't slip like they do on other mats I've used. I also love practicing on a natural mat. I would recommend Gurus to anyone!

I love everything about Gurus! <3 My family and I each have a pair of Gurus, as well as their shirts, tank tops and hats. I absolutely love their non-slip yoga Cork mat. The more you sweat, the more it grips. I recommend every item on their website and especially love what the company stands for. They plant trees and use renewable sources! We need more companies like this to support! Huge supporter here!

My wife LOVES her Roots yoga mat, it's very light weight but performs perfectly in hot yoga. Thanks!

I have used this mat at hot yoga 4 days a week and it holds up great and does not slip. Would highly recommend!

This is THE BEST mat I have ever had! I love that it is a little wider than the standard yoga mat but not longer. The cork provides a perfect stable base. Great business and an amazing product. Get this mat!!

I love your mats and what you stand for! Since these mats are all natural, I feel safe using them, especially since I'm pregnant. I especially love that you plant trees for products sold! I would love to try more of your products as well!
As a yoga instructor, I always encourage my students to try your mats. The slip-proof cork allows you to feel steady and solid in your practice without being uncomfortable.
As a photographer, your mats look absolutely stunning laid out in different studio settings, indoor and outdoor. Whenever I photograph yogis, I prefer to set them up on your mats because they're natural and not distracting.
As a mother, I feel safe using your products, knowing that I won't fall (love that they're slip proof!) and that I'm using a product without harsh chemicals. I love using these mats especially as I grow more unbalanced (the joys of pregnancy!).

I absolutely love all of the products that I have gotten from Gurus. I own the sandals, the cork mat, and a strap as well! The quality is tremendous and they have held up beautifully. As a yoga practitioner who plays every single day on her mat, I enjoy the durability and the eco-friendly material.
